As the accounting profession transforms, accounting education must keep pace with changes in technology, professional practice and the capabilities expected of future accountants. The increasing use of artificial intelligence and data analytics, the growing importance of sustainability and evolving professional and employer expectations are changing how accountants work and the skills they need. This raises an important question for educators: how should accounting education respond?
NAEC 2026 brings accounting educators, professional bodies, industry leaders and policymakers together to strengthen accounting education in response to these developments. Participants will gain practical insights into adapting curricula and assessments, enhancing teaching approaches and strengthening collaboration with employers. Professional updates will help educators connect classroom learning more closely with workplace expectations and the dynamic needs of the profession.

His extensive research integrates economic instruments for social justice and governance, establishing him as a leader both nationally and internationally. Dr. Ram's diverse contributions to academia and practice underscore his ability to envision forward-thinking strategies that accommodate both traditional and modern accounting paradigms.
Ali Shah Hashim, a chartered accountant with a rich 46-year career, is the founder and Managing Partner of ASH Hiani Group, offering valuable insights from the trenches of auditing, tax, and advisory services. A proven leader in accounting practice, commerce, and education, his hands-on experience in driving industry standards makes him a vital voice in assessing the practicality and anticipated outcomes of proposed reforms.
The session will be steered by the esteemed Prof. Dr. Ayoib Che Ahmad, a seasoned academic and leader at the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, Universiti Utara Malaysia.
